Q: Testing gas appliances in property
My landlord has not tested the gas appliances in my property - what should I do?
A:
Under existing gas regulations your landlord is legally obliged to test all your gas appliances, and failure to not do this (normally they should test these appliances annually) is a criminal offence.
My recommendation would be to speak to your landlord and see if they are aware of this regulation. You might be surprised to find that they didn't know and appreciate you telling them.
If on the other hand you discover that your landlord is fully aware of this obligation and has no intention of testing your appliances, you need to report them to your local health and safety executive. It may feel harsh, but they are risking your health by not performing this check.
