What inspired you to get into property investment

My father was in the prefabricated industry in the north of England so I have always had an interest in property.

What did you do before becoming a property investor

I have had many business in Tenerife including rent a car, internet service provider, boat excursions, property maintenance.

How long have you been in property?

I bought my first property investment in about 1986.

Do you feel property investment has changed much since you started?

Yes, I feel that property investing is a very secure way of investing once you have learned the proper way to do it.

What advice would you give to people considering property investment as a career?

I would say do it but make sure you get the proper information and education so that you do it right. Learn from those who have already become successful at property investing. I learned the hard way and made many mistakes along the way.

What is the best investment you have made as a property investor?

I have built a couple of houses from scratch after buying the land and working with the architects and builders which I enjoyed and they worked out to be very profitable.

Have you done much investment in properties abroad? Do you recommend it?

All of my investment properties are abroad. I would have recommended it highly until I learned the English way of investing as it is a lot more flexible.

I would say that you should always de careful if you are going to invest abroad and do not try and cut corners.

Why do you feel property is a beneficial asset?

Property always increases in value over the long term and is something that everyone needs. Everyone needs a roof over their heads

How did you come to be a member of Property Mentor?

I wanted to learn the English way of investing in property because I had been out of the country for such a long time. I became a PM delegate to fast track my knowledge of becoming an investor and to learn the right way instead of trying to fumble around on my own.

Do you feel you would have found more success in property investment if there had been a similar course when you started?

If I had know what PM has taught me when I started I would be way ahead of where I am.

What advice would you give to experienced investors who are questioning whether to sell their properties during the current economic climate?

I would get them to look at the current cashflow situation and to look at ways of improving it instead of selling. Prices will always go up in the long run.

Do you feel there is much competition in property investment?

There is always going to be competition but from personal experience there are a lot of other companies trying to teach similar things but with no ongoing support and they are trying to charge a lot more money. The PM system is an ongoing educational program which to me is more beneficial than a other so called get rich quick schemes.
